30 Years of CAMM Metals: Where We’ve Been and Where We’re Going
On April 1st, 2026, CAMM Metals officially celebrated its 30-year anniversary!
Since 1996, CAMM Metals has been serving a myriad of industries, providing high-quality, custom fabricated components that meet our customers’ specifications and timelines. What began as a modest operation has transformed into a trusted sheet metal fabrication shop supporting OEMs across New England and New York State.
The American Dream Actualized
CAMM Metals was founded in 1996 by President Matt Soucie’s father, Al Soucie, quite literally in his garage.
At the time, he held a full-time job, so he worked nights and weekends to build the business from the ground up. For six months, operations ran out of the family home, until he eventually rented a 2,000-square-foot garage bay in the Soucie family’s town of Ellington, CT.
The early years of the business weren’t about aggressive expansion or detailed five-year plans; they were about survival. The original vision of the company was modest; Al believed the company would offer steady business that could provide a comfortable retirement for himself and support a few employees. But these strong foundations ended up creating opportunities far beyond his initial expectations.
Simple Parts, Strong Relationships
In the beginning, CAMM Metals produced relatively simple fabricated components, square plates with round holes, on modest equipment. Many of our earliest partnerships were price-driven; the company often won work by being the most affordable shop.
But what truly sets CAMM Metals apart wasn’t price alone. It was the quality of the partnerships and the approach to customer service. Those early relationships became the foundation of our long-term success. By positioning itself as a dependable, responsive partner, CAMM Metals built trust that allowed the company to grow alongside its customers.
Strategic Investments Have Changed Our Trajectory
About two years into the business, CAMM Metals purchased its first CNC punch. It wasn’t a highly advanced machine by today’s standards, but it expanded capabilities and signaled a shift toward more advanced manufacturing processes.
The true turning point came around year five with the company’s first major financial commitment: the purchase of its first waterjet. At the time, CNC waterjet cutting was a relatively niche technology. The waterjet represented a leap into higher-precision, more advanced fabrication capabilities.
That strategic thinking paid off quickly. After securing a major contract that required redundancy in this capability, CAMM Metals invested in a second waterjet to ensure backup capacity.
Our company’s mindset of investing strategically rather than reactively continues to guide equipment purchases and service expansion today.
From Survival to Continuous Improvement
When a company is in survival mode, a long-term strategy can feel out of reach. But as CAMM Metals stabilized, the focus shifted.
The leadership team began asking bigger questions, such as:
How can we expand our services to better support our customers?
How can we create growth opportunities for employees?
How can we innovate our metal fabrication shop to remain as competitive as possible?
The shift toward continuous improvement became embedded in our company culture. It’s a mindset that still drives operations at our East Windsor, CT facility today.
A Family Legacy
Matt Soucie officially joined CAMM Metals in 1998, where he had the opportunity to work directly alongside his father. Being able to build something meaningful together created memories and experiences that go far beyond balance sheets.
In 2015, Al retired, having laid an incredibly strong foundation for the company’s future. Because of that groundwork and grit from the very start, CAMM Metals is the successful company it is today.
Where CAMM Metals Is Going
Today, CAMM Metals operates as a second-generation business with a clear focus on growth.
In our next chapter of growth, we will continue to:
Add complementary services to support our customers’ projects better than ever before
Continue strategic investments in advanced equipment
Grow our team and create new opportunities for employees
Prepare the next generation of leaders to carry the company forward
CAMM Metals’ commitment to delivering high-quality fabricated metal parts on time hasn’t changed, but our capabilities and ambitions have grown significantly over the past 30 years.
